A Cottage Garden

A diversity of blooms for cutting and arranging were welcomed into the established perennial borders of this family’s garden in upstate New York.

Project Goals: Transition a shady woodland garden into full sun after removal of large shade trees. Incorporate drought resistant cut flowers into an established perennial garden to create a ‘living mulch’. Carve out informal paths and widen existing paths to prioritize accessibility throughout the beds.

Key Plants: Leucanthemum vulgare, Gaillardia x grandifolia, Podophyllum peltatum, Polygonatum odoratum, Monarda fistulosa, Hosta plantaginea, Solidago canadensis, Hemerocallis fulva
